VIRGINIA BEACH - Shanklin Stowe Fulcher, 62, a retired Coast Guard chief boatswain's mate and commercial fisherman, died in Portsmouth Naval Hospital Tuesday [March 5, 1968].
A native of Frisco, N.C., he lived here 20 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Madeline Wilkerson Fulcher and a son of Arthur J. and Mrs. Mary Midgett Fulcher. He was a founder and a charter member of Thalia Methodist Church. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1947 after 23 years. He was a commercial fisherman for 20 years.
Surviving besides his widow are a daughter, Mrs. Mary F. Tillman of Chicago; a step-son, Frank E. Grove of Virginia Beach; two brothers: Arthur J. Fulcher, Jr. of Woodland Hills, California, and Mack Fulcher of Norfolk; three sisters: Mrs. Alice Daughenbaugh, Mrs. Rosa Whedbee, and Mrs. Cynthia Marcos of Norfolk; and a step-sister, Mrs. Carolyn F. Lockie of Gainesville, Fla.
A funeral service will be conducted in Twiford Funeral Home in Norfolk on Friday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. E.E. Cox. Burial with full military honor will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
