John M. Mattis, age 80 years and 4 months died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Warren F. Swab, town, at eleven o'clock Sunday evening after an illness of several months. He was a member of Salem Lutheran church and had been a resident of this community the greater part of his life.
Mr. Mattis was a son of the late lsaac and Sarah Mattis born in Mifflin Township April 2, 1851. He married Miss Amanda Deibler March 20, 1873.
Survivors are his widow, one son, Isaac W. Mattis; four daughters Mrs. W. F. Swab, Mrs. Gideon Fogelman and Mrs. A. W. Hokie, all; of this community and Mrs. Oscar Hoover of Berrysburg. Other survivors are eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Jonas Swab, town and Mrs. Alice Deibler, Pillow.
Funeral services will be held from the Swab residence at two o'clock this afternoon. Rev. W.Z. Artz, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church will officiate and interment will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
