Joshua ROOT was the son of Mary ASHLEY of MA and John ROOT of CT.

He married Margaret GILBERT on 18 March 1712 in Westfield, Hampden Co, MA.

Their known children:

1) Mercy Root, b. 1713, d. 1799.
2) Joshua Root, b. 1715 d. 1791.
3) Margaret Root, b. 1716 d. 1775.
4) Hannah Root, b. 1718 d. 1754.
5) Thomas Root, b. 1720 d. 1765.
6) Ruth Rhoda Root, b. 1722 d. 1817.
7) Experience Root, b. 1723 d. 1797.
8) Catherine Root, b. 1725 d. 1787.
9) Lydia Root, b. 1725 d. 1806.
10) Israel Root, b. 1728 d. 1809.

"Joshua Root, who died in 1730 was the first person known to have been buried there, (The South Burial Ground, now called Mahaiwe cemetery) and his grave marked by a rough block of limestone."
