Died At Miners Village
_______________
John D. Boyer, of Miners Village, died this morning at the home of his nephew, William P. Boyer, with whom he resided for the past ten years. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. The deceased was 84 years of age and was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a member of Company B, 109th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. He enlisted on March 23, 1863 and saw two years service, being discharged in June 1865, at Arlington Heights, Virginia.

The son of Peter & Hannah (Druckenbroad) Boyer, in 1860 he was a mason living with his family in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, listed in the census showing his own income. By 1863, he stood 5' 8" tall and had light hair and blue eyes and gave his occupation as that of printer.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service with three regiments:
1. Enlisted at the overstated age of nineteen in Gap, Lancaster County, mustered into state service September 12, 1862, as a private with Co. E, 24th Pennsylvania Militia, and honorably discharged with his company September 22, 1862.
2. Enlisted at the still overstated age of nineteen in Harrisburg March 26, 1863, and mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. A, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves (41st Pennsylvania Infantry). On May 31, 1864, with the dissolution of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, he transferred to Co. B, 190th Pennsylvania Infantry, to complete his term of service, and honorably discharged with his company June 28, 1865. His obituary in the Lebanon Daily News (seen here) erroneously reports his regiment as the 109th Pennsylvania Infantry.

A lumberman for much of his post-war life, he reportedly married Mary Ann Plasterer ca. 1865 and fathered Frank P. (b. 08/13/65), Elizabeth (b. @1872), Sarah "Sallie" (b. 11/07/75 - married a Smith), Emma (b. @1879), William P. (b. 12/18/83), and Cyrus Plasterer (b. 12/07/86), although his death certificate lists his marital status as single. He died at a nephew's home in North Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, from "acute ileocolitis" with "arteriosclerosis" a contributing factor. His obituaries mention neither wife nor children. The Veterans of Foreign Wars provided him with a military burial.
