Oliver Hale was a farmer and a man of abundant substance. Served in Old French War. Was Sergeant in Newbury Company under Capt. Stephen Emery. Ensign in 1761 (prob. for active service) and later Lieutenant 1757 (militia). Was generally known as Captain Oliver."
"He bought land from Nathaniel Greenleaf, Ezekial Hale et al. He was described by others as a Newbury Gentleman. He probably lived on his fathers homestead on the southern slope of "Archelaus Hill" in what is now West Newbury."
