Claude Robinson, truck driver for the Sterling Transportation company, was instantly killed at 7:45 P.M. Tuesday evening at the Cudahy Packing company crossing, when his truck was struck by the Oregon Short Line train No.54, which was traveling toward Salt Lake City at a speed of 55 miles per hour. Clinton Carey of Fruitland who had accompanied Robinson to the packing plant, died on the way to St. Mark's hospital. The truck was loaded with cattle and hogs which were being taken to the Cudahy plant and was struck when directly on the track. The bodies of the men were dragged some 500 feet and the carcasses of the cattle and hogs were strewn along the right of way. No information seems to be available as to Robinson's failure to see the approaching train which had a bright headlight and should have been seen by him. Mr. Robinson was well known in the Basin, having lived at Hayden some sixteen years, prior to his moving to Salt Lake City on account of his duties as truck driver for the Sterling company, with which he has been connected since soon after the starting of the truck line. He married Terssie Peterson, daughter of Gilbert Peterson of Hayden, 18 years ago. Besides his widow he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Minda Littley of Midvale, formerly of Hayden and the following children: Leida, 17; Mardee 13, Ella 12, Leila 7 and Ray 1. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
