Mary Ann was the second of five children born to Urban East and Mary Ann (nee Saling) Davis.
She married Charles Shirley on Dec. 15, 1886 in Cooper, Missouri. There were 8 children born to this union:

MRS. C.H. SHIRLEY CLAIMED BY DEATH
Well Known Woman Dies-Brief Illness
Mrs. Mary Shirley died at her home on Thursday morning of heart disease after a short illness, although she has been in ill health for about two years.
Mrs. Shirley was born in Cooper county, near Booneville, Mo., in 1864 and was 57 years old. Her father's name was Erbin Davis. She was married to C.H. Shirley in 1886.
She is survived by her husband Charles Shirley, seven children, Mrs. L.C. Duncan, St. Johns, Kansas; Mrs. J.L. Buchanan, of Neosho, Mo.; Miss Ava Shirley and Miss Virginia Shirley of Miami; Wilbur Shirley of Augusta, Kansas; Harry Shirley, of Galena, Kansas; and Everett Shirley of Miami. A daughter, Ulma, died in infancy.

Funeral Services of Mrs. Shirley Saturday Morning
The funeral services of Mrs. Mary Shirley will be held tomorrow morning at the First Christian church under the direction of the Mitchell-Fleming Undertaking Company. the Rev. J. Allan Watson will conduct the services and the interment will be made in the G.A.R. Cemetery.
