Funeral services for Weldon L. Dillard, 89, of Carnegie were held Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie with Rev. Arthur Blount officiating.
Weldon was born September 23, 1912 in Joshua, Texas to Robert Lee and Ella (Ella Adams) Dillard and died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton.
He came to this area at an early age by train. He graduated from Alden High School. Weldon served in the U.
S. Navy during WWII seeing duty in the Caribbean between Cuba and Trinidad. He married Dorothy Reeves on July 31, 1937 in Carnegie.
He played "sand lot" or semi-pro baseball. He worked for Tunnel Oil and Gas followed by Truitt Butane Company, Cal Gas and Amerigas for 17 years. After retiring from the L.P.G. industry he worked as a peanut inspector for 10 years.
He was a member of the Carnegie Fire Department for 20 years and was the last member of the Old Geezers Coffee Group. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where his responsibilities included being a trustee and the Sunday School Secretary for the past 50 years and singing with the Senior Choir. His hobbies include making "one step" stools, fishing and traveling by train through Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Elizabeth Dillard of Carnegie; two grandsons and their wives, David Lee and Leslie Dillard of Augusta, Georgia and Robert Howell and Angel Dillard of Wichita, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Andrew, Maggie, Katy and Reagan; two nephews, Herman Terrell of Carnegie and Robert Akin of Olton, Texas; two nieces, Vivian Horton of Carnegie and Nelda Nix of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
Burial was in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of the Pitcher-Hackney Funeral Home in Carnegie.
