In Loving Memory of Betty Hacker:

Betty Hacker was born Elizabeth Ann Kirchner on November 11, 1935 in Austin, MN. She was the daughter of Charles Kirchner and Maude (Haag) Pruisman and the step-daughter of Klaas Pruisman. Betty grew up in Manly, IA and graduated from Manly High School in 1953. She is a graduate of Mason City Junior College in 1955 and Luther College in 1959. She married Darvin L. Hacker on August 19, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Manly, IA.
Darvin and Betty have three children; Karen Beth Hacker Kinnett of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; Michael Charles Hacker of Seattle, Washington; and Jack (Corinne) Whalen of Indianola, IA.
Betty taught in Cresco, IA (1955-58); Harmony, MN (1959-61); and in Decorah, IA hwere she worked for 26 years at the Decorah Junior High School teaching 7th Grade Life Science. and coached 7th and 8th Grade Girl's Track and 8th Grade Girl's Basketball. She retired in 1990. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Decorah, IA; where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of the Hannah Circle. She had been Baptized and Confirmed in the Christian Faith at the Lutheran Church; and was always active in the Lutheran Churches in the areas in which they lived.
Betty was a life member of N.E.A. and active in the following clubs, organizations and service groups: Oneota Golf and Country Club (served as President of the Woman's Association), Director of Nordic Dancers for many years. President of the Decorah Public Library Board, a Hospice Volunteer, Coordinator of Peer Helpers, Luther College Woman's Club, Monday Club, Charter Board Member of the Decorah Community School District Foundation, "unofficial" counselor at Decorah Junior High, and received "Outstanding Young Educator" by the Jaycees in 1970, and the "Distinguished Service Award" from Luther College in 1974.
Betty is Lovingly Remembered by her husband, Darvin, her three children; Karen, Mike, and Jack Whalen, one grandson; Dylan Kinnett, her mother; Maude (Haag) Pruisman of Kanawha, IA, one brother; Glenn Kirchner of Decorah, IA, one sister; LaDonna Eckheart of Mason City, IA, one step-brother; Gerald Pruisman of Pine Island, Fla., and one step-sister; Marlene Walters of Orland, Ind. Also all of her in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She joins in Heaven her father; Charles Kirchner, her step-father; Klaas Pruisman, and one sister; Rhonda Kirchner. Also her mother and father in-law; Chris and Gurina (Truelsen) Hacker, all of her in-laws, and many Loved ones. Betty died of cancer at the age of 59 years.
