A loner and outcast, John Tornow lived in the wild forests of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. Accused of murdering his two nephews (though many beleived he was framed), Tornow hid out in the dense forest of the Wynoochee River for nearly two years. He became known as the Wild Man of the Wynoochee, and many beleived he preyed on loggers and timber surveyors, swooping down from the trees to murder them for their clothing and supplies. After several failed attempts, a posse caught up with Tornow on Apri 16, 1913 and in a vicious shootout one deputy and Tornow were killed.
