Macon- Mr. Morgan H. Bowen of Macon, GA passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was born in Nashville, Georgia on January 10, 1927 to the late William and Lalah Bowen and was educated in Smithville, Georgia. He joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served during World War II. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Bowen entered the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #1316 Apprenticeship Program and was initiated into IBEW in 1947. He was elected president of Local Union 1316 in 1958 and then served as Business Manager and Financial Secretary for 31 years. He was appointed to the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee in 1961 and served for 36 years and was appointed to the Advisory Council of the Georgia Department of Labor Employment Security Agency in 1962 and served for 30 years. In 1962 he assisted in obtaining a charter for the Macon Building and Construction Trades Council and served as Secretary/Treasurer for 10 years and was a member of the City of Macon Electrical Examining Board from 1962 until 1972. Mr. Bowen was also Vice President of the Georgia State AFL-CIO for the sixth and eighth Congressional Districts of Georgia and served for 26 years. He was appointed by the President of the United States to serve on the Selective Service Appeals Board and served for 10 years. In 1967 he was elected as Vice President of the Georgia Electrical Workers Association and served for 25 years. He was appointed to the National Electrical Code Panel No. 7 in 1971. He received his 60 year membership pin with the IBEW Local Union 1316 in 2007.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, LaMerle Beacham Bowen; three children, Connie (Robert) Shephard of Atlanta, GA, Richard (Angie) Bowen of Winston, GA and Sherry (Paul) Lancaster of The Woodlands, TX; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Greg) Goss, Kristin (Derrick) Daehler, Leslie Guthrie, Paul Lancaster III (Staci), Lindsey Morgan Bowen, Hope Bowen, and Hudson Bowen; five great-grandchildren, Karah and Bethany Duke, Kaylee, C. J., and Emma Daehler. Also surviving are two sisters, Frances Beachamp of Americus, GA and Hazel (Wade) Hiltabidel of Bloomfield, CT, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
