Nellie E. Nichols was born June 30, 1881, at Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Royal and Mary Lashbrook. She died Monday, October 31, 1967, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 1 day.

She came to Fillmore County with her parents at the age of three years. She attended public school in Fairmont, graduating from high school in 1899. She then was employed at the Fairmont Creamery and later at the Fairmont State Bank.

She was married to Clarence B. Nichols September 27, 1904. Six children were born to them; Herbert, Francis, Gordon, Wilbur, Donald and Marian. They lived on a farm south of Fairmont until 1937 when they moved to Fairmont.

Mr. Nichols died in 1955. Mrs. Nichols had been in poor health the past two years. She moved into Colonial Manor in Geneva when it opened during the past summer. She resided there at the time of her passing.

Mrs. Nichols was active in 4-H cub work, in project clubs and was an officer of the Fairmont Cemetery Association in its beginning years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ at Fairmont.

She is survived by her four sons, Herbert, having preceded her in death; Francis of Fairfield, Ia., Gordon of Fairmont, Wilbur of Geneva and Donald of York; and her daughter, Mrs. Marian Doss of Gentry, Ark.; also 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nichols was known for her keen mind., her interest in her community, particularly in education and in her church. She was widely loved by friends, as well as her family.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 2, at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ at Fairmont, with Pastor William Reitmier officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Federal Bridgman sang "Abide With ME" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord," accompanied by Miss Linda Smith, organist.

Pallbearers were John Anderson, Howard Brower, Raymond Hall, Don Miller, Everett Nichols and Wesley J. Robbins. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
