Henry was a long-time member of the Burgin Board of Education and served as its chairman for 16 years. For many years he was associated with the Shaker colony at Shakertown in their farming operations and had a deep knowledge of the Shakers concerning their customs, beliefs and activities. Henry was also a widely known livestock trader in Mercer and adjoining counties. He owned and operated a livery stable at Burgin for many years and at the time of his death still owned the livery stable which is intact but has ceased operation. It is believed to be the only one in existence in Central KY. Although not a veterinarian by profession he had a wide knowledge of diseases among livestock and how to administer treatment to them.
