Mr. Junius Portman Stapp, who had been ill for 9 months, died at his home near Montpelier on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. His death was not a surprise to his family and many friends for his condition was known to be serious. He was a good citizen and a man who had a strong hope and an abiding faith not questioned by those who knew him. To recount his many generous acts in relieving distress, in gladdening the hearts of the disconsolate, and in advancing religious work is not within our reach.

Mr. Stapp was born on January 14, 1859, making him 71 years of age. On May 11, 1879 he was married to Miss Joeann Miller. His wife, 12 children, 43 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and one brother survive him.

He was ordained deacon of Providence Baptist Church about 50 years ago, where he remained a devoted worker until death. He will be greatly missed by the church as well as by the entire community.

Funeral services were held at Providence Church, Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B Settles, assisted by Rev. J.W. Hubbard, followed by interment in that cemetery.
