LEHIGH - Services for Sherman B. Branom, 102, Lehigh, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Coalgate Church of Christ, Lloyd McElhaney and Johnny D. Ward officiating. Burial follows at Lehigh Cemetery.

Mr. Branom died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at his home west of Lehigh. He was born March 29, 1905, at Sherman, Texas, to James Washington and Mary Serena Farmer Branom.

He moved to the Lehigh area in 1910 and attended schools at Friendship, Grasshopper and Lehigh. He worked in the oil fields for Indian Territory Illuminating Oil Company, later known as Cities Service Co. He moved back to the family farm west of Lehigh in 1942 where he farmed and ranched. He was a member of Coalgate Church of Christ and served on the Coal County FHA Board, Coal County Livestock Breeders Association, Coal County Dental Board, Soil Conservation Board and Coal County Excise Board. He was the oldest active member of the excise board with more than 51 years service.

He married Ruby Elizabeth Dobson Dec. 31, 1929. She died Oct. 10, 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Washington and Mary Serena Branom; wife, Ruby Elizabeth Branom; four brothers, Berkley, Prentice, Homa and Bill; and a sister, Velma Cunningham.
