24 September 1942 - The Clarence Sun

James Addison Flansburg, aged 81 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. Veva Christianson, 516 Twelfth street northwest, Mason City, at 8:25 o'clock a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 1942, following a long illness.

Mr. Flansburg was born near Albany, N.Y., March 22, 1861. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was five years old. The settled near Clarence.

He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern railway for 46 years, having retired in December, 1929. His longest service for the road was at Glidden as station agent.

After his retirement Mr. and Mrs. Flansburg established their home at Clarence where the earlier part of their lives were spent. They looked upon Clarence as their home. In 1938, owing to the illness of both Mr. and Mrs. Flansburg went to Mason City to spend the winter in greater ease, fully expecting to return home the following spring, but could not. The plan to return to Clarence was not permanently abandoned till this spring when their property was sold.

Mrs. Flansburg is confined to her bed and Mr. Flansburg did not give up caring for her constantly till the Saturday previous to his death. To the end he manifested his devotion to his wife and their children.

Surviving are his wife, Genevieve, and daughter, Mrs. D. Veva Christianson, Mason City, and one son, Joseph Earl Flansburg, Glen Ellyn, Ill., and two grandsons, Gilbert James Christianson, Mason City, and Jim Flansburg, Glen Ellyn, Ill. and two granddaughters, Dorothea and Josephine Flansburg, Glen Ellyn, Ill. Three brothers, Orlando of Clarence, and Walter of Mechanicsville, also survive. Mr. Flansburg was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Mr. Flansburg was a member of the Haggi lodge No. 639, A.F. & A.M., of Glidden, and a member of the Methodist church of Clarence.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Patterson funeral home, conducted by Reverend Marvin B. Kober, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial followed at Memorial Park in the Christianson lot. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Flansburg and daughter Dorothea were out from Glen Ellyn, Ill. to attend the funeral.
