Bertha was the daughter of Conrad Seltzer of Germany and his wife Dorothea Roerig Seltzer, also of Germany. She married Frederic Edgar Zerbey. They had at least 3 children as of 1900, Dorothy, born June 1884; Frederic Edgar, born in March of 1894; and Arthur, born November 1896. Frederic Edgar Zerbey, Sr. was a civil engineer. In 1894, he was employed by the Lehigh Valley Coal Company.
