Dwight Wilson was the son of Earl A. and Bessie Mae Cooksey Henry. He was a farmer as was his father and grandfather before him. He married Mabel Hendren, from Newark, Ohio but died a few months before the birth of their son, Dwight. According to family stories, he had been kicked in the head by a steer as a boy. After working in the fields one day, a blood clot broke free in his brain and he died within two days.
