Mrs. Josephine Stephens, wife of James Stephens, died at the family home on South Main Street at ten minutes of twelve on Friday of last week after an illness of only a few days. The attack of blood poison was malignant from the start and all that medical skill and loving hands could do to stay its progress availed nothing.

Josephine Exon was born in the State of Kansas July 30, 1875 (tombstone says 1876). When she was three years old her father moved to Colorado, settling first in the Mancos valley, where she has since made her home. She was married to James Stephens in 1891. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.H. Kern, and interment was made in the family lot in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

The deceased leaves to mourn their loss a husband and four sons and two daughters as follows: Walter of Delta, Albert of Camp Funston, and James, Francis, Cathrine and Lloyd at home.

There also survives her three sisters and four brothers as follows: John, Sol and George Exon and Mrs. Adam Kramer of this vicinity, Will Exon and Mrs. Martin Rush of Dolores, and Mrs. C.F. De La Mater of eastern Colorado, and a mother, Grandma Exon of Mancos.
