W. Jane Kieffer, 92, lifetime resident of Council Grove, KS, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Council Grove Healthcare Center. She was born November 6, 1917, in Council Grove, the daughter of John Wilbur and Hattie (Hastings) Miller.Jane married Elven Kieffer, on June 30, 1934, in Lyndon, KS. They made their home in the Fairview District, northeast of Council Grove, where they farmed and raised their three children. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1995.She worked as a cook at the Morris County Hospital, before retiring after 20 years. She moved to Neosho Plaza in Council Grove in 2001, before moving to the Council Grove Healthcare Center in 2007.Jane enjoyed playing cards, bingo, crossword puzzles and playing the piano. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elven; son, Earl Lee Kieffer; and 2 brothers, Leland and Estal.
Jane is survived by her sons; Wesley Elven Kieffer & wife Ella Mae, of Los Lunas, NM and Max Kieffer & wife Sylvia, of Council Grove, KS; grandchildren, Jody Kieffer & wife Roni, of Cincinnati, OH and Monica Kneppel & husband Danny, of Lodi, CA; 3 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Mason and Morgan Kieffer; and sister, Dorothy Hess, of Kansas City, KS.Funeral services for Jane will be held at 10:00 A. M., Friday, July 16, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel, with Rodney Pretzer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., before the service, at the chapel. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Council Grove Senior Center.
