MARS HILL - September 24, 1955 - Mrs. Julia Ray, 86, widow of Joe Ray of the Paint Fork section of Madison County, died today at the home of a son, Blake Ray of the Paint Fork section.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Paint Gap Baptist Church. The Rev. Lyman Rich will officiate, and burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
She was an active church worker for 70 years and was well known for her service to the sick and needy.
Mrs. Ray, a native of Yancey County, had lived in Madison County since her marriage 70 years ago.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J. K. Bailey, Mrs. Stella Jarvis and Mrs. Pearl Metcalf of Mars Hill; two sons, Alvin and Blake of Mars Hill; a brother, W. W. Metcalf of Mars Hill; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Brown, Greenbury Robinson, Floyd Holcombe, Kenny Gardner, Zade Burleson and Mont Ray.
Members of the Adult Women's Sunday School Class of the church will be flower bearers.
Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
