Manitowoc Herald Times, Wed, July 22, 1942:

WIDELY KNOWN TEACHER DIES AT HOME HERE.
Miss Clara Salomon, Who Spent 47 Years as a Teacher, Passes Tuesday Miss Clara Hedwig Salomon, 67, who retired two years ago after teaching in the county for 47 years, 42 years in this city, died Tuesday evening at 8 15 o'clock at the home at 1301 South 8th street. She had been in failing health since her retirement. Miss Salomon started her teaching career before she was 17 years old, teaching first in the Reedsville school, for two years and then in the Rockville school for three years. Most of her career she taught the fourth grade. Funeral Friday After coming to Manitowoc she taught in the third ward until the city system was inaugurated and then taught at the Roosevelt school, before going to the Adams school where she was teaching at the time of her retirement in June 1940. The City Teachers' Association paid tribute to Miss Salomon at a testimonial dinner Feb. 19, 1941. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Wesley Methodist church with the Rev. Carl H. Hagen officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body was take to the Pfeffer funeral home and will be moved to the home at 1301 South 8th street at 9 a.m. Thursday where it will lie in state until 10 a.m. Friday when it will be moved to the church to lie in state until the time of the funeral. Clara Hedwig Salomon was born in this city on December 19, 1874, a daughter o the late Herman and Fredericka Vetting Salomon. Her father was one of the four brothers who notably served the nation in the Civil War and who was honored by the Steuben Society of Manitowoc with the monument placed at the corner of the Court House square. Enjoyed Her Work Her teaching career started before she was 17 after she had completed her own schooling. Through her long career in this city she taught the fourth grade and always said it was ‘enjoyable work to give the children something that will guide and help them through life." At the testimonial given in her honor after her retirement, all city teachers and members of the school board were present. She was presented with a watch on the occasion. Supt. Hugh Bonar lauded her work and expressed the appreciation of the comjunity for her services. Survivors are two sisters, Misses Dora and Serena Salomon, both of this city. A brother, Edward, preceded her in death on May 27, 1941."
