OBITUARY-AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN(excerpt): "Clifton Eugene Dye, 84, of Austin, passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 1995. He was born in Luling, Texas, July 22, 1910, into a family with 15 brothers and sisters. The family moved to Austin in July 1931.
He married Marian Annis Cloer on Sunday, February 26, 1933 and built their first small home in Pecan Grove, Barton Springs Road on his father's homestead, just up the hill off Kinney Avenue.
As a carpenter, Clifton worked on Tom Miller Dam, Marshall Ford Dam, and Shoal Creek Bridge to name a few. After serving in the Aleutian Island in 1944, he returned and continued to work as a carpenter until his retirement in 1975. He helped build Southside Church of Christ where as a member, taught Sunday School, led congregational singing, served as a Deacon for 35 years, and then an Elder until 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian Annis; son Bill; daughter Sue Ann (Suzy) McWilliams and her husband Ed; daughter-in-law Rena M. Dye; grandson Will Dye; granddaughters Dagny Schmidt and her husband, Leeman, and Lynn Downing; great-granddaughter, Reagan Schmidt. Also survived by brother, Kenneth Dye of Electra, TX; and sister, Maudine Shelton of Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 17, 1995 at Wilke-Amey-Clay Funeral Home. Burial follows at Capital Memorial Gardens."
