Darle Elmer Edwards was known to me as simply "Uncle Darle" - husband of my Aunt Mable. It was not until many years later that I began learning about the earlier part of his life:
He was born to Jessie Avis (Edwards) and husband Cecil Ellsworth Teter, and had an older sister, Edna Maree. When Darle was about eleven years old, he lost his 13 yr. old sister to spinal meningitis in 1926 and then his mother followed a few months later, also of spinal meningitis. They are both buried in the Chariton Cemetery... Darle was adopted by his mother's parents, Grant & Edna (Prather) Edwards, and raised with their 3 older children. His name was changed to Darle Elmer Edwards. His father went to Texas and remarried to Winnie Covington, and they had two sons and a daughter. Darle received his 8th grade diploma from Chariton School in May of 1930.
In 1939, Darle was married to Mabel Eldora Coller; a divorce is recorded in May of 1942; they were remarried in April of 1944. A sweet baby daughter was born to Mabel in 1946 and named Neva Louise, but she had a heart condition and passed after living only about a month.
Darle was a self employed carpenter who lived in Des Moines, Iowa since 1945.
In 1968, Darle was in the back of a truck on the interstate near Milford, Nebraska, when he fell out of the truck and was run over by a trailer it was towing. He had been helping some people who were moving to a different home.
He was survived by his wife Mabel, his stepmother Winnie Teter; two half brothers: James and Douglas, and a half sister, Nancy Teter.
Funeral services were held at Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines; graveside service at the Chariton Cemetery, handled by Miley & Bruggeman Chapel, followed by burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
