Mae M. Peterson, age 87, of Preston, died Friday morning, July 9, 2010, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Mae was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Preston, the daughter of John and Louise (Hanning) Anstett. She married Clifford L. Peterson April 16, 1944, in Preston. The couple lived and farmed on the Peterson family farm in Waukokee Valley, Carimona Township, Fillmore County, until November 1961, when they moved to Preston. She worked at HECO Enterprises in Harmony, Control Data in Spring Grove, Lake Center Industries in Stewartville, Northwestern Bell in Preston and for the City of Preston. She retired in June 1993. Clifford died April 1, 2003.

She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston and her local sewing club. She was a big Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, traveling with the Summit Club and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Mae is survived by her five daughters, Janice Peterson of Preston, Karen (Dean) Aarre of Stockton, Minn., Barbara Hampel of Dover, Minn., Christine Olson of Rochester and Susan (Blaise) Hager of Preston; nine grandchildren, Darrin (Heidi) Aarre of Lewiston, Darrek (Anna) Aarre of Winona, Dana (Heather) Aarre of Lonsdale, Minn., James Hanson of Rochester, Scott Hanson of Rochester, Stacy Davis of Peoria, Ariz., and Gerrie Erickson of Peoria, Ariz., Brandi (Chris) Merkel of Harmony, and Trevor (Stefanie) Olson of Rochester; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dawson, Lucas, Joseph, Olivia, Aundra, Jerod; one great-great-granddaughter, Amiah; two sisters, Ruth (Ray) Ewalt of Harmony and Maude (Richard) Holets Chatfield; one brother, Wendell Anstett of Rochester; one sister-in-law, Florence Foss of Preston; numerous nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and one nephew.

The funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, with the Rev. Betsy Dartt officiating. Burial will be in Carimona Cemetery in rural Preston.

Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday an hour before the service.
