CHALLIS MESSENGER, Challis, Idaho: FREDERICK CHARLES SALOMON
Fred C. Salomon of Renton, Washington, died July 29, 1994 of cancer.
He was born May 6, 1931 at Challis, Idaho to Ed and Mary Kirk Salomon. Fred graduated from Challis High School in1949 and attended the Unitersity of Idaho where he earned his Masters in Education in 1956. He was employed by the Highline School District where he taught Math and Science at Sunset Junior High for 4 years. In 1962 he moved to Mt. Rainier High School, becoming the head counselor, where he worked until his retirement in January of 1994. Fred loved his work, the students, the staff and the school.
Fred's enlistment in the Air Force gave him a love of flying. He became a certified flight instructor, teaching both a private pilot ground school and flight lessons for a period of 10 years. He was instrumental in setting up aviation courses at both Highline College and Mt. Rainier High.
Fred served on the Civil Service Commission for King County Fire District 40 for the past five years.
He loved the game of golf, playing with a group from school, the Washington State Seniors and participating in the Open Heart Open Tournament for many years.
Fred is survived by his wife Mary Lou of Renton; Kirk and Donna Salomon or Aurora, Illinois; Kent Salomon of Kent; Keith and Donna Salomon of Renton and grandchildren Ellen, Justin and Morgan.
A memorial get together will be held August 13, 2:00 pm at Mt. Rainier High School. Remembrances may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, Seattle.
