Montene was born in Brock, Texas, but lived the last 30 years of her life in Azle. She was a school bus driver of the Azle Independent School District for many years. She was a member of the Eagle Mountain Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Harold Matzinger of Azle;, three sons, Richard Pettigrew of Springtown, Ronnie Pettigrew of Kosse, and Perry Matzinger of Port Aransas: two daughters, Carolyn Peterson of Decatur and Shelia Adams of Azle, 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
