Mr. Peterman was a member of the 1st Ohio Cavalry during the Civil War. He carried orders for General Pope during the Battle of Cedar Mountain and then at Second Manasas. After that he went to Washington DC to defend that city. He fought at Gettysburg under Gen. Hayes, and was involved in some of the heaviest fighting, now at the present day national cemetery. After the war he returned to Hancock County and farmed until his retirement. He lived at 814 South Blanchard St. He was married to Mary A. Peterman (Mains)
