James is the son of Timothy Quilliams and Mariah Ogle.

He was born in Tennessee and is a brother to John, Minnie Melvina, Elitha Quilliams Broeder, William Timothy, Martha, Joseph Lee, Sam and Sarah Quilliams.

His sister, Martha, ran away from home at age 13 in 1908 and was last known to be at the YWCA in Knoxville. Their sister, Elitha, ran an ad seeking information as to her whereabouts in 1916. It is not known what became of her.

His brother, John, died in the Eastern TN asylum in 1918.

James married Emma Lela Deitz on 16 Mar 1907 in Jackson county, NC. They don't appear to have had children.

His WWI draft registration indicates that James was of medium height and build with brown eyes and black hair.

He was admitted to the asylum in June 1934 and died 14 years later of acute pancreatitis and involutional melancholia (severe depression).
