Walter had been living in Kings, CA when he entered the service and was a member of a machine gun team with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team.
He was Killed in Action while defending his position on "George Hill" near Chindong-ni, along the Pusan Perimeter in South Korea on September 3, 1950.
Private First Class Bruner was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
