Astyanax was born January 14, 1823 in Tazewell county Va. He came to Texas with his brother to join other members of the family, Astyanax married his first wife Sarah Jane Hocker on February 6, 1851 in Guadalupe Co., Texas. Sarah Jane was the daughter of Henry C. Hocker. After Sarah's death he married Sarah's sister Susan Nancy Hocker on October 24, 1865.
Astuanax was a kind man and well thought of. He had black hair and light blue eyes and was of medium build and a hard worker also a smart business man. He was a good Christian man and was of the Methodist faith.
Astanax was a private in Captian Carrington's company, Gidding Battalion Calvary, Confederate army.
