"Mrs. Frances Birdsong Darden, age 71, a civic and religious leader, died Saturday at Louise Obici Hospital.
A native of Courtland, she was the wife of Austin Taylor Darden and the daughter of Martha McLemore and Thomas Henry Birdsong, Sr.
"Frank" was interested in all civic affairs, acting on the Board of Patrick Henry Hospital. She was a former president of the Louise Obici Hospital Auxilairy. She was one of the founders of the Birdsong Trust Fund. She was a member of the Suffolk Literary Club, Suffolk Book Club, Riverview Garden Club and the Suffolk Woman's Golf Association.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and an alumnae of Hollins College."
