Hester Ann "Hettie" Smith was born July 20, 1832 in Noble Twp, Shelby County, Indiana the daughter of James & Margaret (Jones) Smith.

Feb 22, 1849 at the age of 16, Hester married Joseph W. Hendrickson in Shelby County, Indiana. To this union 8 children were born:
1) Sarah Margaret (Hendrickson) Youngman (1851–1927)
2) Thomas H Hendrickson (1854–1932)
3) Malinda (Hendrickson) Brooks (1856–1938)
4) Mildred "Millie" (Hendrickson) Mount Spellman (1859–1945)
5) James Hendrickson (1861–1873)
6) William H Hendrickson (1864–1865)
7) Benjamin Joseph Hendrickson (1865–1960)
8) Almira A "Mira" (Hendrickson) Miller (1868–1908)

Hester died Oct 2, 1873 most likely in Tipton County, Indiana. She & Joseph had lived in Tipton County since at least 1860 and had buried there son James Hendrickson @ Jackson Cemetery in Tipton in July 1873 just 3 months before Hester passed away. Hester was buried near her parents on her parents plot in Shelby County, the County where she was born and raised.
