He fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was a Private in Company "B" 12th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He enlisted November 01, 1863 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was captured on April 05, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia and was held as a prisoner of war at Point Lookout Prisoner of War Camp in Maryland. He was Paroled June 15, 1865 and returned back home to his family in Coosa County, Alabama. He married Mary Jane Thomas on 06 January 1842 in Coosa County, Alabama. Mary Jane was the daughter of Etheldred Watson Thomas and Melinda McKinney.
