.Lawrence served for twenty years in the United States Navy.He retired in the grade of Chief Petty Officer in 1937. Lawrence served as a chief pharmacists'mate in the Naval Medical Corps and served with the colors in all parts of the world. His final illness cut short his career and he died at the Naval Hospital in San Pedro,California after an illness of six months. He met and married his wife, Eva Dunlap while she was serving in the Navy Nurse Corp.She is also buried in Christ Church Cemetery.They had one son. Alan Clark Hobbs.
His parents lived in Bastrop at the time of his death.
