"Another veteran of the Civil War responded to the last call, last night, when Garret W. Huyck, 78 years old was found dead in a chair in the kitchen of his rooming house, 21 Wilham street. Death was due to natural causes. Coroner Hastings was notified and had the body removed to Kierman's undertaking rooms on Market Street, where Dr. Congdon made an examination. During the war Mr. Huyck served as quartermaster sergeant of Company H, Forty-Third New York Volunteer Infantry. Years ago he was engaged in farming in Rensselaer County. He had been at the rooming house several weeks. He is survived by a daughter, living in Sioux City, Iowa, whom the coroner will communicate with." - THE ALBANY EVENING JOURNAL, ALBANY N.Y., MONDAY, MARCH 01, 1915, PAGE 09.

B., Battalion, September 22, 1864; returned to ranks by reason of consolidation, September 22, 1864; mustered out, June 16, 1865, at Washington, D. C." - REPORT OF THE ADJUTANT-GENERAL, NEW YORK, FORTY-THIRD INFANTRY, PAGE 1213.
