Phillip "Phil" Alvarado, 84, of Seaside, died of natural causes Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, in Salinas.
He was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Mexico and had lived in Monterey County for 81 years. He was a boxer for 14 years and a gardener. He was a boxing trainer at the Police Athletic League at the Carmel Sunset Center. Boxing was his lifelong interest and he was an avid baseball and football fan. Membership: Carmel Mission Basilica and Northern California Veterans Boxing Association.
He was preceded in death by sons, Phillip (SAS), and Rick Alvarado. Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Maryon Alvarado of Seaside; daughters, Roseanne Alvarado Peace of Monterey, Cynthia Alvarado Ferrante of Canyon Country and Dyan Alvarado McAuley of Carmel Valley, brothers, Pete Alvarado and Manuel Alvarado, both of Monterey, and Nick Alvarado of Seaside; sisters, Virginia Lucero of Monterey and Florence Trujillo of Seaside; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey. Rosary: 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 1, at the Mortuary. Mass: 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Santa Rosalia Chapel, San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey."
