Frances was the daughter of Robert F. and Eliza P. (Love) Davis. Frances' first husband was James W. McCullough (also called McCulloch or McCullock), whom she married 14 Sept 1860, DeKalb Co., GA. James enlisted in Company E, 7th Georgia Infantry on 15 May 1862. On 30 Aug 1862, he was wounded in the Second Battle of Manassas (Bull Run) and died of his wounds two and a half months later.

Frances' second husband was Henry Matthews, whom she married as his second wife on 30 Oct 1878 also in DeKalb Co., GA. Frances' only children were by her first husband, a son Charles and daughter Maggie.

Her death notice from the Atlanta Georgian and News (Atlanta, GA), Friday, 13 May 1910, page 13:

"Mrs F. C. Matthews, aged 73 years, died at her residence at Decatur, Ga., Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. She is survived by one son, Charles McCullough, and two sisters. The funeral was held at Decatur Presbyterian church Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The interment was in the Decatur cemetery."
