MOUNT PLEASANT - Lee William Barrier, 91, of Mount Pleasant died July 8, 2010. He was born in Cabarrus County on July 1, 1919, to his parents, Edward Tell Barrier and Corean Rachel Cline Barrier and step mother, Effie Hahn Barrier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Barrier and by siblings, Wilma Fisher, Ethel Moose, Glenn Barrier and Mildred Hahn.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Elizabeth Eury Barrier, of the home; children, Edward Barrier and Joyce Owen and husband Sheffield; grandchildren Lorri Ann Barrier and husband Jeff Jones, of Mount Pleasant, John Owen, of Winston Salem and Mark Owen and wife Katherine, of Jefferson, Ga. Great grandchildren are Ian, Tristan and Morgan Jones of Mount Pleasant and Liam and Mary Owen of Jefferson, Ga.

Lee was a farmer, hosiery mill worker and carpenter. He was a loving husband and father and took great joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of Mt. Gilead Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant. He served his church on the council, in the choir and as a Sunday School teacher.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 11 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant at 3 p.m. The funeral service will follow at Mt. Gilead Lutheran Church at 4 p.m., officiated by Rev. Linda Voelker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Universal Health Care and Hospice of Cabarrus County for their care of Lee during his final illness.
