April 1938

On Wednesday morning, April 13, at 12:30 o'clock. Mrs, Mary K. "Aunt Polly" Kincheloe, widow of the late George Kincheloe, widely known pioneers in Hamilton county died at the home in this city of her daughter, Mrs. T. H. Hamrick. For nine years Mrs. Kincheloe had been a beloved member of the household of Mrs. Hamrick and her family. Four years ago the aged lady sustained a broken hip in an accidental fall and since that time had been an invalid and unable to walk.

With the passing of Mrs. Kincheloe the last surviving charter member of the Cottage Hill Baptist church organized near Shive, 61 years ago, fell in the victorious march of time. The colorful, useful magnificently courageous life for this woman began in Washington County, Tennessee, December 22, 1849. She was the daughter of Gregg Register and his wife, Orlena. Mary K. Register was married to George Kincheloe, November 12, 1868. The couple came to Hamilton county in the year, 1874, and settled on a farm in the Shive country. Where they lived until the husband's death, October 24, 1918.

As long as "Aunt Polly" Kincheloe was physically able she attended faithfully and loyally the services of worship at Cottage Hill, and saw the thinning of the ranks of those who banded themselves together in the beautiful faith for the worship of God and the evangelism of their community. Now her body rest amongst those of the other members of the band who be sleeping in the cemetery nearby the hallowed walls of the little church.
