Jacklyn Lusher Ball, or "Jackie" as she was known to friends, died peacefully Saturday, July 3, 2010, at home in Roswell, N.M., following a long and difficult illness, with her loving husband, Ed, at her side. She was 80. Funeral: noon Thursday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 505 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, N.M. The Rev. Dr. Maurice W. Geldert and the Rev. R.J. "Bud" Milner will officiate. Interment: Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Wort. Visitation: Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Thursday in Independence Chapel at Greenwood Mausoleum, 1300 White Settlement Road. Pallbearers will be her nephews and grandnephews. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor Jacklyn Lusher Ball's life make donations to the Animal Welfare Alliance of Roswell, Box 2762, Roswell, N.M. 88202, or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 505 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, N.M. 88201. Jackie was born Aug. 18, 1929, to Jack O. and Carmen Brewer Lusher of Perryton. The family moved to Fort Worth, where she was raised. Both parents preceded her in death. Her grandmother was Mrs. W.J. Brewer of Fort Worth. She was also preceded in death by her aunt, Grace Bockman, and her husband, Joe, of Roswell, with whom she spent many happy summers as a child. Jackie and Ed met and fell in love at Texas Christian University, where they were members of Phi Sigma Iota and Alpha Chi honor societies. She graduated magna cum laude in 1951. Ed and Jackie were married in Fort Worth on Dec. 6, 1952. They moved to Houston, where they pursued their careers for more than 30 years before moving to Roswell. Despite her illnesses, Jackie was known for her quick wit, elegance and graciousness. Her close friend and special compadre, Michael Schnapp, brought much laughter and comfort to her life. She will be greatly missed by all those who were recipients of her love and generosity throughout the years. Ed extends special thanks to Dr. Daniel Raes, Dr. John Dalton and Dr. Vijay Chechani for their loving care of Jackie. He also thanks and appreciates her faithful caregivers at home, Frieda, Faylena, Aracely, Debra and Patricia. Survivors: Her husband of 57 years, W. Edwin Ball; dearly loved nieces and nephews, James A. Ball III and his wife, Shirley, of Bartonville, Carol Shults and her husband Dr. William Thomas Shults of Portland, Ore., John Ball of Arlington, Sally Ball Mizzell of Aledo and James Howard Ball and his wife, Diane, of Irving; several cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces; and special friends, Shane and Karen Brown and their beautiful children, Isabella, Lockney Jo and little Shane.
