The News-Virginian, Waynesboro, VA, Tuesday, March 5, 1996: Katherine Smith Newberry, 98, died Saturday, March 2, 1996, at the home of her son in Nellysford, VA, after a short illness.
She was born July 27, 1897, at Creamery, a daughter of the late Brazil and Frances Murdock Smith.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church at Creamery, and was the oldest member of the church. She was also a member of the Farm Women's Club of Wolfcreek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd J. Newberry; four brothers, Henry Smith, Logan Smith, Joe Smith and Raymond Smith; and two sisters, Amy Noke and Margaret Gwinn.
She is survived by four sons, Kermit Newberry of Alderson, Roy J. Newberry and Joe D. Newberry of Akron, OH, and Travis Newberry of Nellysford; two daughters, Margie Bostic of Akron, OH, and Margaret Dick of Crossville, TN; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church at Creamery by the Revs. Hugh Wilson and Kenneth Martin. Burial will follow in the Camp Grounds Cemetery at Creamery.
Friends may call at the Loban Funeral Home, Alderson, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
