John R Allen, aged 76 years, died at his home at Creamery, Monroe county, yesterday after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. He was a splendid citizen and one of the leading men of affairs in that community. He is survived by a number of grown children, among whom are: John Allen, of Lowell; G L Allen, of Charlottesville, Va; Mrs W Lilly, of Jumping Branch; Mrs R E Lilly, of Creamery; Mrs C A Shanklin, of Greenville; and A F and H D Allen, of Creamery. Mrs J W Hall, of this city, is a granddaughter.
