"James L. Brown, 63, a highly respected citizen of this city, passed away at eight o'clock last Saturday morning,
after bring in failing health for more than a year forcing him to retire from active work as a farmer. Death was
due to a complication of diseases.
He was born on March 3, 1868, and had spent practically all of his life in Martin and eastern Daviess counties.
He was a son of William A. Brown and Mary Bramble Brown. he was married to Sarah Farrell of Loogootee. Of
the union the following children survive: Mrs. Walter Ehrhardt, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Ruben Harris, Cincinnati,
Dexter of Washington; Mrs. Hugh Healy of St. Michaels; Mrs. James McDonald of Corning; and Miss Susan at
home. John Brown of Vincennes and a former resident of Loogootee; Lon Brown of Shoals, Mrs. John Hickman
of Loogootee, Mrs. John Martin of Indianapolis; are brothers and sisters respectively of the deceased. Eight
grandchildren also survive. The wife and mother died a year ago.
Mr. Brown was a devout member of the Catholic church, and held his membership with St. John's congregation of
Loogootee. Funeral Mass was held there on Monday morning and interment of the remains was made in the St.
Martin's cemetery at Whitfield."
