On January 19, 1957, he was united in marriage with Leona M. Hunt and to this union there is one daughter.
Raymond was employed with Yellow Freight Systems for twenty-six years, three months, and eighteen days. He retired in June of 1991.
He served with the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #4107. For twenty-nine years he has been a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order Of The Eastern Star. He was a member of Laclede Lodge #83.
Since 1962, he has been a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lebanon.
He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden. After retirement, he enjoyed the yardwork and flower gardens, always keeping his yard immaculate.
Raymond always had time for family and especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Survivors include his wife, Leona of the home; a daughter, Cheryl McClellan and her husband, Harold of Lebanon; a brother, John of Lebanon; a sister, Lena Marie Singleton, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Kelly Jo Schuetz and Johnna Michelle Finnern and one great grandson, Gregory James Finnern.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jessie Lavon Gossman, a brother, Charles Roy Thomas in infancy and a grandson, Shaun Michael McClellan.
Funeral services for Raymond Earnest Thomas were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 29, 1997, at Colonial Funeral Chapel with Roger Marshall officiating. Burial was in Mt. Rose Memorial Park with Military Rites by VFW Post #4107 under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Lebanon.
