Jerry Kelton Bertelsen 1935 ~ 2006 Jerry Kelton Bertelsen passed away peacefully at home August 24, 2006, after a short, but valiant battle with cancer. Born April 7, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Lane J. And Etta Long Bertelsen, Jerry grew up in Marysvale, Utah, where he was known for his great athletic abilities.

He attended BYU and then CSU in Cedar City, Utah, where he played on both the basketball and baseball teams. He then transferred to Utah State University where he also played basketball and graduated with a degree in Education. After graduation, Jerry returned to Marysvale where he taught school and coached the Bulldogs basketball team to many victories. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. On June 30, 1961, he married Pamela Simkins in Circleville, Utah (divorced). They were blessed with three daughters, Wendi, Marci and Staci, who were his pride and joy. The family resided in Fillmore, Utah, where Jerry taught school and coached at Millard High School. They later moved to Richfield, Utah where he pursued other business opportunities. He married LuAnn McKell in August of 1988 (divorced).

On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2000 he married Yolanda Chavez, his best friend, soul mate and sweetheart, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Azusa, California and had just recently moved to Mesquite, Nevada. They loved being together. Jerry was a very supportive dad, grandfather and husband, passing on his love of sports to his grandsons who also excel. He was an honest man, always improving on everything. He was very loving and affectionate, putting others before himself.

He was very dependable, and taught his girls to be so also. He believed in "never, never, never give up." He loved to laugh and we loved to hear him laugh. Jerry was very fun and loving and loved by all who knew him. We will all miss him so much. He has gone to a better place to be with his beloved Mom and Dad, his greatest fans.

He is survived by his loving wife and care giver to the end, Yolanda Chavez; three daughters, Wendi (Barry) Christensen, Nick, Kaitlin and Luke of Sandy, UT, Marci (David) Lassig, Kolten, serving LDS Mission in Rosario, Argentina, Tate, Demi and Morgan of Draper, UT, and Staci (Jan) Christensen, McKenzie, Kylie and Kortnie of Richfield, UT; one sister, Louise Atherley of Richfield, UT; and his constant companion "Speedy" the dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lane Joseph and Etta Long Bertelsen; and sister, movie star "Marie Windsor" Marie Bertelsen Windsor Hupp (1919-2000). Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Virgin Valley Mortuary, Mesquite, NV. Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2006, 12 noon at Marysvale LDS Chapel.

Interment will follow at Marysvale Cemetery. Special thanks to all of Dad's wonderful friends who called and came from far and near to show their love for him.
