John Ralph Hatfield, 78, formerly of Chattanooga, TN passed away peacefully with his wife Virginia by his side on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at his residence in Orange Park, Florida.

Born on January 21, 1932 to Gordon Lee and Mary Inez in Little Rock, Arkansas, he moved to the Chattanooga area of Tennessee with his family where he spent his childhood. He joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and was drafted to England in 1952 where he met and married his first wife, Lily. Lily passed on in 1997 and John Ralph remarried to Virginia in 1998. They moved to Orange Park in October 1998. John retired from the U.S. Army with a disability but continued to work on the American Air Base at Upper Heyford running Aero Club, managed the NCO Mess and the Officers Club. He then moved on to work as Supply Officer for DODS. His greatest love was flying. He bought an airplane when he came to Florida and spent many happy hours at the controls until he had to give it up due to a heart bypass.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, John is survived by his son, John Paul with grandchildren Danny and great grandchildren Shay and Bailee; son, Mark with great granddaughter Robyn; son, Ross with granddaughter Promyse and granddaughter Rebecca; son, John Wayne with grandchildren Chelsea and Brandon; son, John Lester with grandchildren Rachel and Ryan; daughter, Sharon with grandchildren Lillie-Jane, Mackenzie-Lee, Jessie-Mae, Lottie-Rose and Rosie-Belle; stepdaughter, Kim; stepson, Mark with grandson Danny; stepson, Anthony with grandsons Nathan and Brandon; stepdaughter, Theresa with granddaughters Harriet and Issobella; stepson, Steven with grandchildren Christopher, Katie and Anthony.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow the service at Granny Walker Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
