John C. Johnston, well known mine foreman, was found dead in his bed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James McDermott in Curwensville, Tuesday morning. Heart disease was the cause of this death. He was along in the seventies.

John C. Johnston was one of the best known mine fremen in the Clearfield or Central Pennsylvania coal field. He was a native of Ireland, coming to this country when a young man. He had charge of mines at Snow Shoe, Houtzdale, Phillipsburg and for a number of years of late at Grampian. He was always given the credit for tutoring many of the first applicants in pass examinations for mine boss certificates when the law went into effect thirty years ago. The past year or so he has been making his home with his sons and duaghters of whom there are several.
