Marshall Jeremiah Strother, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014.

Marshall was born in Oakdale, LA Oct. 1, 1925, to Wade Marshall and Thelma Lee (Hettie) Yielding Strother.

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. When he returned from the service, he went back to school.

At Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas, Marshall met the love of his life, Frances Fraser. They married Dec. 17, 1949. Marshall earned a master’s in school administration at Baylor and was teaching when he felt led by God to become a missionary. He went on to get a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary.

Marshall and Frances had four children, Marsha Ann in 1951, Mary Sue in 1953, Virginia Elizabeth in 1959 and Paul Marshall in 1961.

The Rev. Strother pastored churches in Barry, Texas, China, Texas, Glendive, Mont., and Pueblo, Colo. He said that he “saved the best for last” when he and Frances helped organize and build a mission church in Beulah, Colo., in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

After retiring, Marshall and Frances traveled in a fifth-wheeler and made wonderful friends. They moved from Colorado to Rosenberg, Texas, in 1999. They enjoyed being near family and grandchildren.
