Atkinson was born Oct. 16, 1887 at Partyville, Wis. to Robert and Sarah Atkinson. He received his education in Wisconsin and moved to South Dakota in 1908, settling in central Perkins County near Meadow, where he farmed and ranched.
He married Julia Smith Oct. 19, 1908 at Webster. She died in April 1968.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Cleone) Miles, Meadow; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by one daughter.
